Cardinals Drop Series Finale to Mets 5-2 Thursday Night

JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-10) lost their first series of the season with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the St. Lucie Mets (14-10) on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The Cardinals took over the identity of the Malmo Oatmilkers," minor league baseball's 121st team in partnership with Oatly.

Drew Rom started on the mound for Palm Beach as part of a minor league rehab appearance and threw two scoreless innings with no walks, no hits, and four strikeouts.

After the first two innings went scoreless, the Mets struck first in the top of the third against new Palm Beach pitcher Nolan Sparks (). Vincent Perozo led off with a double and later with two outs Jeremy Rodriguez hit an RBI single to make it 1-0 in favor of St. Lucie.

The score remained until the top of the sixth inning when St. Lucie added another run thanks to an RBI single from Simon Juan which gave the Mets a 2-0 lead.

Mets starting pitcher Edgar Moreta finished with five scoreless innings and got out of many jams but got the no-decision.

Palm Beach got on the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the sixth off of Mets relief pitcher Raimon Gomez (BS, 1). With the bases loaded and one out, Gomez committed a balk which allowed Josh Kross to score which cut the deficit to 2-1. Cardinals left two men in scoring position. However, the Beach Birds got another gift of a run by Gomez in the bottom of the seventh inning. With runners at second and third base, a wild pitch allowed Jose Cordoba to score which tied the game at 2-2.

However, the Mets regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning in a big way. With two outs for Sam Broderson (L, 0-3) in his second inning of relief work, he allowed a double and a walk. Then, Simon Juan launched a three-run home run to left field which made it 5-2 in favor of St. Lucie.

The Cardinals left 10 men on base and went 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position as they could not comeback again in the game and fell 5-2 to the Mets on Thursday night.

Travis Honeyman, Christian Martin, and Jonathan Mejia each had two hits in the ballgame and contributed to six of the nine total hits for Palm Beach.

The Cardinals hit the road for three games against the Lakeland Flying Tigers beginning Friday, May 2nd with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Palm Beach Cardinals return to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to host the Jupiter Hammerheads in the second “Dual of the Dean” series in 2025 for six games beginning on Tuesday, May 6th.

Friday, May 9th at 6:30 p.m. is “Nurses Appreciation Night” presented by Visiting Nurse Foundation of Florida. All nurses and accompanying family and friends get a discounted $7 ticket with valid ID, 20% team store discount, and a 10% discount at all concession stands.

Saturday, May 10th is “Women Run the Diamond Night” to celebrate inspiring women and female athletes in the community. Beginning at 5:00 p.m. is the Meet-and-Greet with women of the game as well as the Women’s Expo followed by 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
