Midland, TX - The Springfield Cardinals rallied for all six of their runs in the top of the ninth inning, coming from behind for the 6-3 win against the Midland RockHounds before 2,765 fans at Security Bank Ballpark on Monday night.

In his return to the Springfield rotation, RHP Sam Tewes dueled back and forth with Midland RHP Brian Howard through the first five scoreless frames.

Tewes had limited the 'Hounds (2-8, 35-44) to just two hits through his first five, but Midland broke through in the bottom of the sixth. With one away, a hit batter and a walk set the table for 1B Seth Brown, who sent a two-run triple to left-center field. 3B Edwin Diaz followed with an RBI sacrifice fly, increasing the Midland advantage to 3-0.

Howard kept the 'Hounds ahead with a scoreless seventh inning, with the St. Louis native closing his outing with no runs on four hits and nine strikeouts.

Cardinals LHP Ian McKinney (W, 3-2) kept Springfield (2-9, 35-46) close with two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, before the Cardinals bats came to life in the ninth. Facing RHP Miguel Romero (L, 0-1), CF Lane Thomas, 1B John Nogowski and C Jeremy Martinez ripped consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. DH Chris Chinea, the Texas League Player of the Week, then came through with his third single of the game, a two-run grounder to left field. After a strikeout and a walk, RF Johan Mieses came to bat with the bases full and one away. Mieses grounded the ball to short, but SS Richie Martin committed a fielding error, enabling everyone to advance ninety feet with Martinez scoring the tying run. SS Tommy Edman then lined an RBI single to center field that CF Skye Bolt attempted a diving catch on but couldn't hang on to, allowing Chinea to come home. 2B Ramón Urías followed with an RBI infield single up the middle, bringing home LF Victor Roache, before a wild pitch allowed Edman to dart home for the final run in the rally, catapulting the Cardinals into the 6-3 lead.

RHP Yeison Medina (S, 4) took over for the bottom of the ninth and slammed the door, working around a one-out walk with a game-ending double play to close the 6-3 comeback win for Springfield.
