San Antonio, TX - For the first time in team history, the Springfield Cardinals swept the San Antonio Missions at Wolff Stadium, closing the trip with a 7-3 win on Sunday evening before 4,875 fans. The Cardinals wrapped up the trip with four straight wins, going 4-2 through the six games in Texas.

For the third straight game in San Antonio, the Cardinals (27-23) dealt the first blow, striking for four runs in the third against rehabbing Padres RHP Colin Rea (L, 0-1). With the bases loaded and one away, SS Edmundo Sosa placed an RBI single to right field for the game's first run. CF Lane Thomas followed with a two-run single, before LF Victor Roache lined an RBI base hit to center, increasing the Cardinals lead to 4-0.

In just his second Double-A start, RHP Anthony Shew (W, 1-1) kept the Missions (30-20) off the board until they plated one in the bottom of the fourth. After a two-out single from CF Michael Gettys extended the inning, an RBI triple from RF Taylor Kohlwey plated Gettys and cut the Cardinals lead to 4-1.

Springfield got the run right back in the top of the fifth. Edman worked a walk and then raced to third on a double from Sosa. Thomas came up next and pulled an RBI single to left field for his third RBI of the game, scoring Edman and making it 5-1.

The Missions countered with an RBI sac fly from 3B Ty France in the bottom of the fifth, but a two-run blast by RF Blake Drake in the top of the sixth opened the Cardinals lead to five runs, 7-2.

Shew finished his outing with a scoreless sixth frame, keeping the Cardinals lead at five runs and finishing his start with just the two tallies allowed on eight hits, no walks and one strikeout in 6.0 frames.

RHP Estarlin Arias kept the five-run lead untouched with two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, rattling off four strikeouts.

Kohlwey led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run, but RHP Ramon Santos responded with three straight outs, closing the 7-3 win and the series sweep for Springfield.
