Casetta-Stubbs Says No-No to Rawhide in 6-3 Win

Modesto, CA – Damon Casetta-Stubbs worked six no-hit innings in the Modesto Nuts 6-3 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field.

Casetta-Stubbs (W, 1-1) allowed just two baserunners in the first three innings. In the fourth, AJ Vukovich roped a line drive up the middle that Cesar Izturis Jr. made a great diving catch on to preserve the Nuts (17-7) no-hitter. After issuing two walks in the fourth, Casetta-Stubbs retired the final seven batters he faced and capped his day with three straight strikeouts in the sixth inning. Casetta-Stubbs worked six innings in the game without allowing a run while striking out seven and walking three.

In the seventh, the Rawhide (7-17) broke up the no-hit bid with a Ronny Simon RBI double.

The Nuts’ offense finally struck against Rawhide starter Liam Norris (L, 0-1) in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Cade Marlowe beat out a potential double play ball to ger credit for an RBI on a fielder’s choice. Robert Perez followed with an RBI single of his own before Marlowe scored on a wild pitch.

Ty Duvall added an RBI triple in the sixth inning before he cranked his first pro home run in the seventh. A big two-run homer over the center field wall.

Nolan Hoffman (S, 3/3) a perfect ninth inning to close out a series victory for the Nuts.

The Nuts have Monday off before heading to San Jose to take on the Giants in a six-game set on Tuesday night at 6:30 pm.
