SALT LAKE CITY The Sacramento River Cats tallied the game’s first run, but that was about the only excitement for Sacramento as they suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of the Salt Lake Bees on Wednesday.

A day after he hit his first Triple-A home run, Drew Cavanaugh drove in the only run of the game for the River Cats (34-37) with a ground out in the second, giving him three total RBI on the season.

However, the rest of the contest was all Bees (27-43), who scored three times in the third, twice in the fourth and once in the seventh. All three runs in the third came courtesy of a single swing by Niko Kavadas, crushing a three-run homer that put Salt Lake on the path to victory.

Right-hander Trevor McDonald (5-4) suffered the loss after yielding five runs on six hits, though he did strike out seven against just three walks. Left-hander Scott Alexander tossed a scoreless outing, striking out one while allowing one hit.

Luis Matos ended his night 1-for-4, while the duo of Brett Wisely and Cavanaugh were each 1-for-3, with the former scoring a run while the latter collected the RBI. Notching the final Sacrament hit for Sacramento was Sergio Alcántara, who was 1-for-2.

Now level at a game apiece, each team will try to take the advantage when they link up for game three of their series on Thursday at 6:05 p.m.
