The Chattanooga Lookouts were defeated by the Birmingham Barons on Thursday night by a score of 9-6. Chattanooga took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo homer from Levi Michael. Birmingham responded in the top of the third inning by scoring three runs on back to back doubles from Danny Mendick and Hunter Jones. Birmingham extended their lead 5-1 in the top of the fourth inning after Keon Barum sent a solo homer over the right field wall, and Alfredo González scored on a wild pitch by Dereck Rodríguez.
Chattanooga scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Levi Michael doubled on a line drive to center field, which allowed Carlos Paulino to score from first base. Birmingham added two more runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning on a double by Mendick, his second of the night. Gonzalez and Eddy Alvarez both scored on the hit, and Mendick advanced to third on an errant throw.
Chattanooga rallied in the bottom of the seventh, when they scored three runs to make the score 7-5. Paulino got the scoring started with an RBI single to left field, allowing Max Murphy to score. Alex Perez was thrown out at home on the play. With two outs, Nick Gordon followed with a bases clearing triple, which allowed both Travis Harrison and Paulino to score to make the score 7-5.
In the top of the seventh, Birmingham scored two more runs, making the score 9-5. Birmingham's first run of the inning came via a Hunter Jones triple, which plated Mason Robbins from first base. Birmingham scored their second run of the inning on a fielder's choice from Trey Michalczewski. Jones scored from third on the play. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Chattanooga scored their sixth and final run of the night on a T.J. White ground ball single to third. LaMonte Wade Jr scored from third base on White's infield hit.
Birmingham starter, Jordan Guerrero (7-9, 3.71) earned his seventh win of the season on Thursday night, while Chattanooga starter, Dereck Rodriguez (4-2, 4.04) suffered his second loss. Chattanooga will look to even the series on Friday night when they host the Barons in game four of the series. Friday night's game will begin at 7:15 PM (ET) at AT&T Field. Friday night will also be superhero night at AT&T Field. Fans are encouraged to come to the game dressed as their favorite superhero.
