Chiefs fall 7-1 to RailRiders Saturday

Moosic, PA (August 26, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 7-1, Saturday night at PNC Field. The win clinched the RailRiders a playoff birth for the third straight season. A four-run fifth inning broke the game open.

Moosic, PA (August 26, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 7-1, Saturday night at PNC Field. The win clinched the RailRiders a playoff birth for the third straight season. A four-run fifth inning broke the game open.

Syracuse (50-83) started the scoring in the first inning against Chance Adams. Neftali Soto singled with two outs, Clint Robinson singled and then Matt Skole singled home Soto for a 1-0 lead. Pedro Severino followed with a fourth straight single but right fielder Jake Cave threw out Robinson at the plate to end the inning and keep the score 1-0.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (83-49) answered back with a run in the second. Ji-Man Choi walked to start the inning against Jaron Long. After a strikeout, Donovan Solano doubled to score Choi and tie the game.
Choi delivered the RailRiders a lead in the third. Cave and Miguel Andújar each singled with two outs, and Choi doubled to left-center to bring home both runs for a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, the RailRiders broke the game open. Tyler Wade led off the inning with a solo home run for a 4-1 lead. Cave then singled and Choi was hit by a pitch two batters later. Then with two outs, Solano hit a three-run home run to push the lead to 7-1.
The Chiefs and RailRiders complete their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. RHP Erick Fedde is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite RHP Brady Lail for the RailRiders.
