Allentown, PA (August 21, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 4-3, in ten innings Monday night. Scott Kingery hit a walk-off single off Neil Ramírez to lift the IronPigs to the win. The Chiefs had three Major League rehabbers play the game. Jayson Werth went 1-for-3 and Trea Turner went 0-for-3, and each played five innings in the field. Enny Romero also pitched on Major League rehab, and struck out the side in the seventh.
Lehigh Valley (71-57) started the scoring in the second inning off Erick Fedde. Brock Stassi was hit by a pitch and Andrew Pullin singled. Stassi moved to third on a fly out and then Logan Moore hit a ground ball to first. Clint Robinson's throw home was late, trying to get Stassi, and the IronPigs took a 1-0 lead.
Syracuse (48-80) tied the game in the fourth. Robinson made up for it with a solo home run over the foul pole in right field, his 18th of the season.
Moore would drive in two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Pullin walked with two outs and Angelo Mora singled to put runners on first and third. Moore followed with a deep fly ball to right-center field that Neftali Soto lost in the lights. The ball landed at the base of the fence, both runners came in the score and Moore ended up on third with an RBI triple, giving the IronPigs a 3-1 lead.
After Tom Eshelman shut out the Chiefs for six innings, Syracuse found two runs against Michael Mariot in the seventh. Soto, Matt Skole and Spencer Kieboom each singled to start the inning to load the bases. In his first game back from the DL, Rafael Bautista then singled to left to score Soto and trim the lead to one. Pinch hitter Brandon Snyder followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Skole and tie the game.
The game remained tied until the tenth. Moore led of the inning with a single against Neil Ramírez and Herlis Rodriguez also singled. The Chiefs the intentionally walked pinch hitter Dylan Cozens, but Kingery lined a 1-2 pitch over the head of Bautista in center to win the game.
Syracuse and Lehigh Valley continue the series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Jacob Turner is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite José Taveras for the IronPigs.
