The El Paso Chihuahuas scored 10 runs in the fifth inning Friday night and beat the Albuquerque Isotopes 13-6 at Rio Grande Credit Union Field. The 10 runs tied the Chihuahuas’ team record for runs in an inning, which was previously set in the bottom of the ninth of their win on August 9, 2019 against Round Rock. The Chihuahuas sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth on Friday and at one point 11 straight reached on a hit or a walk. The Isotopes used three pitchers in the inning.
Chihuahuas shortstop Mason McCoy went 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs Friday. It was his third straight three-hit game, with five extra-base hits in that span. El Paso catcher Luis Campusano walked three times on Friday and has reached base multiple times in each of his last six games. Center fielder Bryce Johnson went 2-for-6 with an RBI Friday in his first game with El Paso this season after being traded from Pittsburgh to San Diego earlier in the week.
El Paso’s 13 runs and 15 hits both tied their single-game season highs. The Chihuahuas and Isotopes have split the first four games of the series.
