Hot-hitting Mariscal plates five runs for Nuts

Chris Mariscal's hot finish to 2016 is spilling over into his first season with Class A Advanced Modesto. 
The Mariners infield prospect drove in five runs and fell a triple shy of the cycle in the Nuts' 12-7 win over Lancaster on Thursday night. 

After flying out to left field in his first at-bat, Mariscal lined a single to left in the second and scored on a double by Joey Curletta.

In the third, Mariscal jumped on a 2-0 pitch from starter Trey Killian (5-1) and sent it over the fence in left-center for a three-run blast. It was the second long ball of the season for 24-year-old, leaving him one shy of tying the career high he set last season with Class A Clinton. 
Mariscal concluded his night with a two-run double to right in the eighth. With 10 hits in his last five games, the 2014 14th-round pick raised his average 32 points to .310.
Last season, Mariscal recorded hits in 15 of his last 16 games with the LumberKings, finishing with a .301 average in 97 games. 

Thursday's outburst also marked the first time the Fresno, California native had five RBIs in one game since June 26, 2015, when he knocked in six for Clinton against Wisconsin. 
Mariscal has amassed 25 RBIs in 35 games, and his .413 on-base percentage stands tied with Yonathan Daza for second-best in the California League.
