Clase, Pérez, Trevino Selected for All-Star Game

(SPOKANE, W.A.) - Major League Baseball announced the full rosters for the 2022 All-Star Game on Sunday night, with a trio of former Spokane Indians players selected to represented the American League at Dodger Stadium. Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, Texas Rangers pitcher Martín Pérez, and New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino will join baseball's brightest starts for the 92nd Midsummer Classic on Tuesday, July 19th in Los Angeles.

Clase has been nearly unhittable out of the bullpen for Cleveland, posting a 1.49 ERA and 0.798 WHIP in 38 appearances while leading the AL with 19 saves. Originally signed out of the Dominican Republic by the San Diego Padres in 2015, Clase was traded to the Rangers organization in 2018 before being flipped to the Guardians as part of the Corey Kluber deal in 2019. The 24-year-old right-hander posted an 0.64 ERA and collected 12 saves while appearing 22 games with Spokane in 2018.

Pérez is making his first All-Star appearance in his 11th big league season after posting a 7-2 record and 2.72 ERA through his first 17 starts of the 2022 season. The southpaw made his MLB debut in 2012 with the Rangers and also spent time with the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox before returning to Texas as a free agent in the offseason. A native of Venezuela, Pérez recorded a 3.65 ERA in 15 starts with the Indians as a 17-year-old in 2008.

Trevino is an enjoying a career year in the Bronx after being traded to the Yankees from the Rangers in early April. The 29-year-old is batting .255 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs but has done his best work defensively as the top pitch framer in the sport—helping New York to the third-best ERA in baseball (3.05) as the team has raced out to an MLB-best 61-26 record. Trevino was a sixth-round draft pick out of Oral Roberts by Texas in 2014 and appeared in 72 games for Spokane that same summer.

The2022 All-Star Game will mark the fourth time in franchise history that the Dodgers will hold the Midsummer Classic, including the third time in Los Angeles and the second at Dodger Stadium, which last staged the event in 1980. Previously, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was the site of the second All-Star Game of the 1959 season and in the franchise's Brooklyn lineage, Ebbets Field hosted the 1949 All-Star Game.
