Claws Top Rocks 7-4 on Tuesday In Series Opener

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - The BlueClaws bested Wilmington 7-4 on Tuesday night to snap a six game losing streak with a series opening win over the Blue Rocks at ShoreTown Ballpark.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - The BlueClaws bested Wilmington 7-4 on Tuesday night to snap a six game losing streak with a series opening win over the Blue Rocks at ShoreTown Ballpark.

TJayy Walton gave the BlueClaws the lead in a four run fifth. Keegan Batka got the last six outs for his second save of the year.

The BlueClaws took the lead in the first inning on a leadoff home run from Robert Phelps, the fourth leadoff home run by the BlueClaws this season. It was Phelps' second home run with Jersey Shore.

Wilmington got an unearned run off Juan Amarante in the second to tie the game.

Jersey Shore took the lead in the top of the fourth. A single by Devin Saltiban combined with an error on the centerfielder Jorgelys Mota allowed TJayy Walton to score. Scott Mudler added a SAC fly.

Wilmington tied the game with two off Juan Amarante in the fifth, one just one hit, a walk, and two balks.

Jersey Shore, however, scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to blow the game open. TJayy Walton singled home the go-ahead run off rehabbing Josiah Gray. A run scored on a throwing error, and Wuilfredo Antunez singled home two for a 7-3 Jersey Shore lead.

Wilmington got one back in the sixth on a solo home run by Chris Hacopian off Micah Ottenbreit.

Juan Amarante got the win, allowing three runs, two earned, in five innings on just one hit.

Brady Day, who has hit safely in 11 straight games, dating to April, had two hits, as did Walton and Saltiban.

The teams continue their series on Wednesday at 6:35 pm.
