Claws Win Two Wild Games, Sweep Thursday Pair at Hudson Valley

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The BlueClaws swept a double-header from Hudson Valley on Thursday, winning 2-1 and 6-4. They threw out the tying run at the plate to end game one, and came from 4-0 down to win game two and sweep the pair.

Game One

Griffin Burkholder, playing his first BlueClaws game, threw out the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the BlueClaws a 2-1 win over Hudson Valley in game one.

Jersey Shore led 2-1 into the bottom of the eighth, the first extra inning. After a groundout moved the inherited runner to third base, Willy Montero flew to right and Burkholder nailed Kyle West at the plate to end the game.

Gabe Craig earned the save.

Hudson Valley took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Kyle West.

Renegades starter Henry Lalane retired the first 13 batters he faced, but the BlueClaws broke through in the fifth. Nate Humphreys, playing in his first game, homered in what was his second High-A at bat to tie the game at one apiece.

The game remained 1-1 into the eighth inning when Daunte Stuart broke the tie with an RBI double to put the BlueClaws in the lead.

Jersey Shore starter Cody Bowker gave up one run in 3.2 innings. Cam Hill threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three. Keegan Batka followed with two scoreless innings of his own.

Game Two

In game two, the BlueClaws trailed 4-0 but rallied to win the game 6-4.

Nate Humphreys, who homered in game one, put Jersey Shore ahead with a 2-RBI single in the top of the seventh inning after Juan Villavicencio tied the game with an RBI single of his own.

It capped a four run ninth for Jersey Shore, who scored twice in the sixth to cut into the lead on a two run double from Luis Caicuto.

Starter Cade Obermueller gave up three runs in three innings. Jake Eddington threw two scoreless innings in relief. Marty Gair, also making his BlueClaws debut, struck out the side in the eighth.

Then in the ninth, Gair struck out three more including Kyle West and Emmanuel Tejeda with the tying run at second base.

Devin Saltiban had two hits and scored twice for Jersey Shore. The BlueClaws four-run comeback matched their largest of the season.

The teams continue their series on Friday night at 7:00 pm with RHP Luke Gabrysh starting for Jersey Shore.
