ZEBULON, N.C. - The Delmarva Shorebirds claimed their third win in four tries against the Carolina Mudcats this week behind a surging offense in a 10-5 win on Friday night at Five County Stadium.

Despite the Shorebirds (60-46) pitching staff issuing a season high 12 walks to the Mudcats (62-44), the Delmarva offense bashed from the start to guide the Shorebirds to the victory.

In the first both Darell Hernaiz and Mason Janvrin were hit by pitches to start the game and one out later Colton Cowser walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Hernaiz to score before Coby Mayo wiped the bases clean with a three-run homer to left, his third of the season, to make it 4-0.

Carolina worked three walks in the second to load the bases with Ethan Murray then driving in a run with a sacrifice fly before back-to-back walks forced in a second run, trimming the contest to 4-2.

Mayo and Jacob Teter drew walks to start the third and two outs later Collin Burns scored them both a double to right-center. Hernaiz then plated Burns with a single of his own to make it 7-2.

With Hernaiz at second and two outs in the sixth, John Rhodes roped a grounder to second to score Hernaiz to make it 8-2. After a walk and a wild pitch, Mayo drove in two more with another base hit extending the lead to 10-2.

With two outs in the ninth, Micah Bello drove home two with a double and Noah Campbell followed with an RBI single, but it was too little, too late as Delmarva held on for the 10-5 win.

Preston Price (1-1) collected his first professional win for Delmarva with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing a walk and a hit.

Michele Vassalotti (5-8) suffered the loss for the Mudcats after allowing seven runs on three hits and five walks, striking out three.

The Shorebirds will try to wrap up the series win early on Saturday, September 4 against the Mudcats. Jean Pinto (0-1, 2.05) starts on the mound for the Shorebirds opposite Zach Mort (3-0, 1.53) for the Mudcats.
