VISALIA, CA- The Visalia Rawhide, in conjunction with the California League, announced today that LHP Cody Reed has been selected as the California League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 17th - July 23rd.

VISALIA, CA- The Visalia Rawhide, in conjunction with the California League, announced today that LHP Cody Reed has been selected as the California League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 17th - July 23rd.

The 21-year old southpaw was dominant over the week, earning critical wins against the Lancaster JetHawks at home and against the Inland Empire 66ers on the road.
The Rawhide won four games out of the six they played over the week, and Reed was the catalyst for the wins twice. He dealt 12 scoreless innings this week while allowing only two unearned runs on five hits and striking out 13 hitters.
The #17 prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, Reed has gone 4-4 with the Rawhide this year and has put up a 3.34 ERA, which would put him among the league leaders if he had enough innings to qualify. Reed has struck out 61 hitters and walked 22 in 59.1 innings this year. He has held opposing hitters to a .226 average against and his WHIP is 1.14, both of which are among the top marks within the Visalia starting rotation.
Reed had a brief stint with Visalia in 2016 and struggled before he was ultimately shut down for the remainder of the season with some arm soreness. He was sent to low-A Kane County this year and dominated while he was with the Cougars, going 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA in eight starts that included a complete-game shutout over Quad Cities. This is the fifth time that Reed has been named a league Pitcher of the Week after earning the distinction twice this year with Kane County and twice more with Short-Season Hillsboro in 2015. He was also named a Mid-Season All-Star for the Northwest League and a Baseball America Short-Season All-Star in 2015.
Reed, who was drafted out of high school in the second round of the 2014 draft, is the second member of the Rawhide to be named a California League Player of the Week after Visalia netted four Players of the Week in 2016 (1B Rudy Flores, SS Dawel Lugo, RHP Brad Keller, and LHP Alex Young ) and one this year (RHP Bo Takahashi ).
The Rawhide kick off a seven-game homestand to close out the month of July against Stockton and Lake Elsinore. For tickets and more information visit Rawhidebaseball.com or call 559-732-4433.
