Minor League Baseball today named Columbus Clingstones' right-hander Landon Harper the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for August 4-10.
The 24-year-old Harper made one start during the week, on August 7 vs. Rocket City in game one of a doubleheader. In his 11th start of the season with Columbus, he pitched 7.0 scoreless, one-hit innings, walked none, and struck out four. He retired the first 20 batters he faced, only surrendering a single to Oscar Colas with two outs in the seventh inning to break up a perfect game bid, and turned in the first complete-game shutout in Clingstones' history.
It is the first Southern League weekly award for Harper, and the first pitching award of any kind in his professional career. It is the 2nd Pitcher of the Week award earned by a Columbus player this season, following Samuel Mejia for July 7-13.
Harper, drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2022 from Southern Mississippi, is 3-6 with a 3.65 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .241 BAA, and two saves (2-for-2) over 21 games (11 starts) with the Clingstones this season.
Harper and the Clingstones begin a six-game road series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday, August 12. First pitch from Keesler Federal Park is set for 7:35 p.m. ET. Listen to the game on SportsVisions92.1 FM, or stream live on Bally Sports Live and MiLB.TV.
