COLUMBUS, Ga., — The Columbus Clingstones (12-14, 38-54) rode a three-run second inning to secure a doubleheader split with the Chattanooga Lookouts (13-12, 51-40) on Saturday at Synovus Park. Columbus dropped the first game 4-3 but rallied to claim game two 5-3.
Decisive Plays (Game 1): An RBI double from Connor Burns gave Chattanooga an early 1-0 lead. Edwin Arroyo drove in the Lookouts' second run with an RBI triple in the fifth inning and Ethan O' Donnell plated a pair with a two-run double in the sixth. Columbus battled back in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Ethan Workinger and a sacrifice fly from Drew Compton to make it 4-2. An RBI single from David McCabe made it a 4-3 game in the seventh inning. With the tying run at third base, Workinger flew out to right field to end the game.
Decisive Plays (Game 2): Columbus seized the early lead with an RBI single from Compton in the first inning. A solo home run from Ruben Ibarra made it 1-1 in the second. Columbus erupted for three runs in the home half featuring a two-run home run from Cade Bunnell (5) to lead 4-1. With Columbus ahead 5-1, Jay Allen II homered to make it 5-3. Elison Joseph (S, 4) struck out all four batters he faced to seal the victory for the Clingstones.
Key Contributors (Game 1): McCabe (1-for-3, RBI), Workinger (1-for-4, RBI) and Compton (1-for-2, RBI) provided the offense for Columbus. For Chattanooga, O'Donnell (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) stayed hot in this series with another multi-RBI game.
Key Contributors (Game 2): Quintero (2-for-3, 3B, SB), McCabe (2-for-3, RBI), Bunnell (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) and Compton (2-for-3, RBI) all had big nights for the Columbus offense while Joseph (Save, 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO) continued his great stretch on the mound. For Chattanooga, Allen II (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) and Ibarra (1-for-3, HR, RBI) provided the pop.
Notable: Columbus moves to 6-8 in doubleheaders this season. Quintero stole two bases on Saturday to become the first Clingstone to reach 20 stolen bases in a season. Joseph has struck out all seven batters faced in this series.
