Comeback Claws Score Four in Ninth to Upend Suns

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Down to their final out in the ninth inning, the BlueClaws scored four runs on four straight two-out hits to come back and stun Hagerstown 4-3 on Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.
With two out and a runner at first base, Raul Rivas walked. Brett Barbier, Darick Hall, and Henri Lartigue followed with three straight RBI singles to tie the game. And Cord Sandberg's two-out RBI single gave the BlueClaws the lead.
The win, Lakewood's second this year when trailing entering the ninth inning, snaps a three-game losing streak and brings the BlueClaws (23-19) within 2.5 games of first place Hagerstown (25-16). Sandberg has figured in both comeback wins. He homered to tie the April 8th game in Kannapolis and had the game-winning hit tonight.
Will Hibbs, who has now thrown 21.2 scoreless innings, earned his fourth save with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
All four of the ninth runs were charged to Sam Held (1-2) who took the loss. Ismael Cabrera (3-2) earned the win with a scoreless inning.
The Suns opened the scoring in the third inning. Blake Perkins stole second with two outs, just avoiding the tag at second, and Sheldon Neuse promptly doubled him home to give the Suns a 1-0 lead.
The BlueClaws threatened in the seventh, with Raul Rivas at second base and nobody out. But Rivas was thrown out tagging for third on a fly out to left with a throw from Nick Banks.
Hagerstown added to their lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Blake Perkins and another by Sheldon Neuse for a 3-0 lead, a lead that would not last.
Suns starter McKenzie Mills threw a season-long six innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out five. Lakewood starter Bailey Falter came out after six innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The series with the Suns wraps up on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm. RHP Felix Paulino (1-2) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP James Bourque (0-1).
