Comebacks fall short on Friday in loss to Brooklyn

*WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (April 22, 2022) — *The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones 6-4 on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.
In the top of the first, JT Schwartz started the scoring for Brooklyn with an RBI single. The Cyclones added two more in the third against Hudson Valley starter Blas Castaño. Matt O’Neill led off the inning with a triple, and came around to score on a Rowdey Jordan RBI double. Jordan later scored on a wild pitch.
Castaño (0-2) allowed five hits and three runs in a loss, walking two and striking out two across three innings.
Jordan drilled an RBI double in the top of the fourth off Renegades reliever Jhonatan Muñoz to give Brooklyn a 4-0 lead.
Hudson Valley shaved into the deficit in its next two offensive frames. In the bottom of the fourth, the Renegades bounced Brooklyn starter Jose Chacin from the game. Everson Pereira pounded an RBI single, advanced to third on an Austin Wells single, and scored on a wild pitch.
Chacin allowed six hits and two unearned runs, walked two and struck out five in 3.2 innings.
In the bottom of the fifth against Brooklyn reliever Oscar Rojas, Tyler Hardman doubled, James Nelson singled, and Eduardo Torrealba grounded out to drive in Hardman to pull Hudson Valley within one.
The Cyclones responded with two in the top of the sixth against Muñoz and Nelvin Correa to extend the lead to 6-3. Jordan’s fourth hit was an RBI single, and a wild pitch later in the inning scored Matt Rudick from third.
In the bottom of the seventh, James Nelson’s RBI single cut the deficit to 6-4. Nelson stole second and third but was stranded there. Saul Torres struck out against Rojas to end the inning.
Rojas (2-0) earned the win, logging the final five innings for the Cyclones, allowing four hits, two runs, striking out eight and walking just one.
Nelson, Austin Wells and Cooper Bowman each finished 2-for-4 and combined to steal four bases, with Nelson also picking up an RBI.
