PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (April 19, 2018) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs racked up double digit runs and hits for the second straight night, scoring six runs in the second inning to coast to a 10-3 win over the Clearwater Threshers at Charlotte Sports Park Thursday night.
After breaking the franchise record in runs on Wednesday, four Stone Crabs (6-8) hitters notched multiple hits Thursday.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the second, Charlotte first baseman Nate Lowe doubled to left center before Jesús Sánchez walked. After a Kevin Padlo free pass loaded the bases with nobody out, David Olmedo-Barrera flew out to deep center, bringing home Lowe to give the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead. With runners at second and third, Joey Roach grounded an infield single to shortstop, bringing home Sanchez to make it 2-0.
The next batter was Miles Mastrobuoni , who dropped a single into right field. The ball rolled past Clearwater (3-11) outfielder Jose Pujols, allowing both runners to score and extend the Stone Crabs' advantage to 4-0. After Lucius Fox was hit by a pitch, a wild pitch chased Mastrobuoni home to make the count 5-0. Two batters later, Lowe delivered an RBI infield single off the pitcher's glove, plating another run and capping the inning at 6-0.
After the Threshers got a run back in the top of the third on four straight singles, Padlo led off the bottom of the inning with a base hit to center. Olmedo-Barrera followed by crushing a two-run home run to right to stretch the Charlotte lead to 8-1.
Stone Crabs starter Kenny Rosenberg (1-0) registered the team's first quality start of the season, working six innings. The left-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out five and walking one.
After Clearwater scored on a Pujols home run in the fourth, Rosenberg hit a batter to begin the top of the sixth before allowing a single to Austin Listi. Once an error loaded the bases with nobody out, Rosenberg retired the next three batters, getting through the inning with only one run of damage.
Charlotte reliever Spencer Jones turned in two scoreless innings of relief before Roel Ramirez finished off a spotless ninth.
The Stone Crabs will remain at home to open a three-game series with the Palm Beach Cardinals at 6:35 p.m. on Friday. Mikey York (1-1, 2.61) makes the start for Charlotte against Austin Warner (0-0, 8.22) of Palm Beach. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
