Crawford, Rincon Join BlueClaws From Clearwater

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – 2022 Phillies first round pick Justin Crawford has joined the BlueClaws, it was announced by the team on Tuesday in conjunction with the Phillies.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – 2022 Phillies first round pick Justin Crawford has joined the BlueClaws, it was announced by the team on Tuesday in conjunction with the Phillies.

Crawford, an outfielder, joins the BlueClaws along with infielder Bryan Rincon, from Clearwater, where they were key members of the Florida State League first-half Northern Division Champion Threshers, who through Sunday are 71-36 on the season.

Marcus Lee Sang was promoted to Double-A Reading. The 22 year old was hitting .269 with eight home runs and 20 stolen bases with the BlueClaws this season.

At the time of his promotion, Crawford was the Florida State League’s leading hitter at .344, was second in the league with 60 RBIs, second in the league with an .877 OPS, and third in the league with 40 stolen bases.

He was the 17th overall pick in the 2022 draft out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Justin Crawford’s cousin, JP Crawford, was the Phillies first round pick in 2013 and played for the BlueClaws in 2013 and 2014. He is now the starting shortstop for the Mariners.

Crawford becomes the 15th Phillies first round pick to play for the BlueClaws. The BlueClaws have had a Phillies first round pick on their roster at some point during each of the last four seasons: 2023 (Justin Crawford), 2022 (Andrew Painter and Mick Abel), 2021 (Bryson Stott), 2019 (Alec Bohm).

Rincon, a 14th round pick in the 2022 draft from Shaler Area High School in Pittsburgh, also joins the BlueClaws from Clearwater. The 19 year old was hitting .228 with eight home runs and 23 stolen bases with the Threshers this year.

At the time of his promotion, Rincon was seventh in the Florida State League with 59 walks drawn.

Crawford is the #3 prospect in the system and Rincon is the #30 prospect in the system per MLB Pipeline.
