A five-run fourth inning and a strong performance from C.J. Dandeneau led the Bristol Pirates to a 5-1 victory over the Greeneville Reds on Friday night as the team secured its fourth consecutive series win.
The Pirates have now won eight of their last 10 games, as they have now won four series in a row for the first time in more than a decade.
The Pirates fell behind early after a one-out double by third baseman Tyler Callihan gave Greeneville a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After managing just two hits over the first three innings, the Pirates loaded the bases on back-to-back singles from second baseman Josh Bissonette and third baseman Aaron Shackelford and a walk by right fielder Brendt Citta. With two outs in the inning, shortstop Francisco Acuna hit an infield single to tie the game at 1-1, and one batter later the Pirates took a 3-1 lead on a single by center fielder Jean Eusebio. Designated hitter Matt Morrow capped off the scoring for Bristol with a bloop single to left to drive in Acuna and Eusebio and make it a 5-1 game.
Starter Adrian Florencio fared better in his second start against Greeneville, allowing just one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings. C.J. Dandeneau came on in relief of Florencio and earned his first career win against the Reds, allowing just two hits while striking out four over three scoreless innings. Samson Abernathy closed out the win for the Pirates,
Acuna and Morrow led the Pirates at the plate with both finishing 2-for-4 in the win. Morrow tied for the team-high with two RBI, while Acuna finished with one run and one RBI. Eusebio went 1-for-3 with two walks, two RBI a run scored and a stolen base. allowing just one hit while striking out two over two innings.
The Pirates (9-8) will send Santiago Florez to the mound on Saturday night as they look for their first series sweep against Greeneville since 2016. Bristol has not swept a series in Greeneville since taking a two-game series in July 2007.
Florez will look for his first win of the season on Saturday, as he faces the Reds for the second time this year. In his season debut, Florez allowed three hits with three strikeouts over five scoreless innings against Greeneville.
