Salt River 9, Glendale 6
Through three-plus weeks of Arizona Fall League play, Grant Lavigne had accomplished basically everything offensively, except homer. Consider that accomplished after his latest outing. The Rockies’ No. 13 prospect went deep in the third to extend his season-opening hitting streak to an AFL-best 12 games. He crushed a 1-0 sinker from Desert Dogs right-hander Tanner Dodson 457 feet to right-center at 106 mph and finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. D-backs catcher Cooper Hummel went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs for Salt River in his final game of the Fall League, and Warming Bernabel (COL No. 8) drove in a pair with a double as part of a five-run opening frame. Reds' No. 18 prospect Rece Hinds struck a 117-mph triple during a 2-for-5 showing and 29th-ranked White Sox prospect Adam Hackenberg connected on his first AFL homer, a two-run tater to left in the fifth for the Desert Dogs. Peoria 3, Scottsdale 1
Strong pitching led the Javelinas to victory. Guardians right-hander Hunter Stanley, who came to the AFL not having pitched since May 1 due to injury, struck out eight over four innings of one-hit ball. Three knocks were all Scottsdale mustered against Peoria’s staff, with Adam Macko (SEA No. 8), Lucas Knowles (Nationals), Mason Hickman (Guardians) and Cade Smith (Guardians) combining for five strong frames behind Stanley. The Javelinas pieced together their runs on six hits, scoring on a wild pitch and sacrifice flies by Nerwilian Cedeno (SD No. 26) in the second and Brady Lindsly (Nationals) in the eighth. Robert Perez Jr. (SEA No. 21) was the only player on either side to notch a multihit game, picking up a pair of singles in four trips to the plate. Box score »
