It hasn’t been the smoothest start for Matt McLain (.172 AVG) in the Fall League. But the Reds’ fifth-ranked prospect broke out in a big way, with his first home run of the campaign in the Desert Dogs' first shutout of the season. The fifth-inning solo shot from McLain, baseball’s 73rd-overall ranked prospect, provided all the run support Glendale needed behind a dominant start by Emmet Sheehan, and Ryan Shreve (Twins) and Lane Ramsey (White Sox) locked down the final 12 outs. Sheehan, the Dodgers’ 22nd-ranked prospect. held Peoria hitless through four frames, striking out four while posting the first five zeros. The Dodgers’ fifth-ranked prospect Andy Pages plated a run with a groundout and Adam Hackenberg (CWS No. 29) and Zavier Warren (Brewers) contributed sacrifice flies in the late innings to support the Dogs’ staff’s airtight afternoon on the mound.
