SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (38-72, 15-29) were defeated by the Salem RidgeYaks (48-60, 23-20) on Wednesday night, 10-3.
The RidgeYaks plated the game's first run in the third when a wild pitch by KK Clark allowed Adonys Guzman to score, making it 1-0.
It stayed 1-0 into the fifth until the Shorebirds' offense broke out, beginning with a two-run triple by Stiven Martinez that put Delmarva in front 2-1. An RBI single by Elvin Garcia moments later put the Shorebirds ahead 3-1.
Salem roared back with five runs in the sixth on four hits, quickly putting Delmarva behind 6-3.
The deficit grew in the seventh when an RBI single by Kleyver Salazar and a three-run homer by Andrews Opata (9) gave the RidgeYaks a 10-3 advantage.
The Shorebirds were unable to get anything going against Salem's bullpen for the rest of the night and would fall to the RidgeYaks 10-3.
Nicholas Judice (1-0) was the winning reliever for Salem, while Dalton Neuschwander (1-11) took the loss for Delmarva. Ethan Walker (1) recorded the final ten outs to earn the save.
Delmarva looks to regain the series lead on Wednesday, with Holden deJong making his home debut against Williams Montero for the RidgeYaks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
