Ciudad de México (Prensa Diablos Rojos) 14 de marzo de 2024.- La estrella dominicana Robinson Canó se integró al trabajo de pretemporada de los Diablos Rojos del México este jueves 14 de marzo, para iniciar así su nueva etapa profesional en la pelota de verano mexicana, un proyecto al que se integra con total ilusión y motivación de ser uno de los pilares de una campaña que se termine levantando el título de la LMB.
Canó, una vez terminada la práctica del equipo, participó en una conferencia de prensa en la que estuvo acompañado por la directiva del equipo, comenzando con el Vicepresidente del Consejo de Administración, Santiago Harp Grañén, el Doctor Othón Díaz Valenzuela, Presidente Ejecutivo, y el Maestro Jorge del Valle, Vicepresidente Deportivo.
“Hoy es un día muy importante para los Diablos Rojos del México. Crecí viendo a los Yankees de Nueva York y me apasioné a este deporte siguiendo a muchos de mis ídolos. Recuerdo esa Serie Mundial del 2009 cuando con mi papá veíamos a esos Yankees con Mariano Rivera en el montículo obligando a que saliera una rola que tomó Robinson Canó para sacar el último out del juego”, comentó Santiago Harp. “Robinson es un ganador, uno de los más grandes líderes del beisbol, es una de las mentes más brillantes en el deporte y viene a ganar”.
Canó llegó a la ciudad de México el miércoles y se integró a su primera práctica con el equipo el jueves por la mañana, en el Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, donde después de ser presentado por la directiva escarlata, fue recibido por el staff de coacheo y los peloteros del equipo. Una vez terminada la práctica, la exestrella de Grandes Ligas fue presentado de manera oficial.
“Primero quiero dar gracias a Dios, a Santiago (Harp), a Jorge (Del Valle) por acercarse a mi y hablar conmigo, ya que hubo equipos que anteriormente hablaron conmigo pero no había visto ese interés”, fueron las primeras palabras de Robinson Canó. “Quiero mandarle un mensaje a la fanaticada, daré lo mejor de mí, haré todo lo que esté en mis manos, porque a mí me gusta ganar”.
Antes de su primera intervención, Robinson y la directiva del equipo, le entregaron la camisola con el número 22 y la gorra color menta, las que el pelotero dominicano portará en la Temporada 2024 de la Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.
“A donde quiera que voy la mentalidad siempre ha sido la de ganar”, explicó el pelotero. ”No importa el deporte, si no juegas para ganar no tiene sentido. Me hablaron muy bien de esta organización, hice preguntas a personas que habían trabajado aquí anteriormente, y todos me dijeron que me iban a dar un trato. Ahora solo le pido a Dios que nos dé la vida y la salud para poder ayudar al equipo a ganar este año”.
Robinson Canó llega a los Diablos Rojos después de haber jugado la Temporada 2023-2024 de la Liga Dominicana (LIDOM) con las Estrellas Orientales y de haber participado en la Serie del Caribe, eventos en los que vio acción en 32 juegos (24 en la LIDOM y 8 en la Serie del Caribe), sumando 28 imparables.
El pelotero nacido en San Pedro de Macorís, llegó a MLB en 2005 y se enfundó el jersey de cinco novenas, destacando 9 campañas con los New York Yankees, con quienes fue campeón en el 2009. Además, jugó cinco campañas con los Seattle Mariners, tres con los New York Mets y parcialmente con San Diego Padres y Atlanta Braves.
Con 18 años de edad, Robinson Canó inició su carrera en el 2001 en las sucursales de los Yankees, recibiendo el llamado a las Ligas Mayores en 2005. A partir de ese momento se convirtió en el segunda base del equipo neoyorquino, siendo parte del equipo que se llevó el título al lado de Derek Jeter, Alex Rodríguez, Hideki Matsui, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, entre otros.
A la par de su carrera en MLB, Robinson Canó ha representado a la República Dominicana al haber jugado en el Clásico Mundial de Beisbol en las últimas ediciones: 2009, 2013, 2017 y 2023. En estos eventos ha participado en 19 encuentros, con 25 hits, tres home runs, 10 producidas y 13 anotadas. De igual forma, Canó ha sido parte de la Liga Dominicana en seis temporadas y en cuatro ediciones de la Series del Caribe.
Con la llegada de Robinson Canó los Diablos Rojos del México fortalecen su infield para la Temporada 2024, confirmando su compromiso por armar un roster con el que se ofrezca un gran espectáculo dentro del terreno y con el que se construya el camino hacia el título número 17.
