Dragons Activate Rece Hinds, Announce Additional Roster Moves

Outfielder Rece Hinds has been reinstated from the injured list. He completed an injury rehab assignment with the ACL Reds.
Pitchers Sam Benschoter and Owen Holt have been promoted to Dayton from Daytona (Single-A, Florida State League).
Pitcher Myles Gayman and infielder Quincy McAfee have been promoted from Dayton to Chattanooga (Double-A, Southern League).
Pitcher Jean Correa has been transferred from Dayton to Daytona.
Hinds has played in 53 games for the Dragons this season, batting .240 with seven home runs and 19 RBI. He was the Reds Minor League Player of the Month in May, when he batted .388 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 20 games. Hinds has been on the injured list after suffering a broken hamate (hand) and has not played for the Dragons since June 21. Hinds is rated as the Reds 18th best prospect by MLB.com.
Benschoter will start tonight’s game for the Dragons. Holt, a former quarterback at Harvard, will pitch out of the bullpen.
Notes on Benschoter: 2022: Opened the season at Daytona…Placed on injured list on June 2 and completed a three-start rehab assignment with ACL Reds before returning to Daytona on July 27…Struck out 80 batters in 51.2 innings at Daytona, going 3-3 with a 4.01 ERA in 14 games (nine starts)…Fastball averaged 92-95 mph. College/High School: Spent five seasons at Michigan State, 2017-21…Posted career record of 4-9 with a 6.97 ERA in 45 appearances including 14 starts…Broke school record with 17 strikeouts in a game vs. Nebraska on April 25, 2021…Four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection…Earned degree in special education—learning disabilities…Played at Tecumseh High School in Michigan (about 60 miles southwest of Detroit).
Notes on Holt:* 2022*: Opened season at Daytona and appeared in 20 games before receiving promotion to Dayton on August 23…Allowed one run in first appearance of the season and then was unscored upon over next 11 outings covering 19.1 innings…Completed time at Daytona with a record of 2-1 with a 2.41 ERA...ERA remained under 2.00 until final outing with the Tortugas on August 20, when he allowed three runs in two innings. College/High School: Played quarterback for two seasons at Harvard before joining the baseball team in 2020…Made two starts at Harvard before Covid caused shutdown of 2020 season and the cancelation of the 2021 season…Enrolled at Alvin Community College while continuing to take classes on-line at Harvard and spent 2021 season with Alvin baseball team. The Dragons are in Davenport, Iowa tonight to open a six-game series against the Quad Cities River Bandits at 7:30 p.m. (EDT).
The next home series at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District begins on Tuesday, August 30 when the Dragons host the Cedar Rapids Kernels at 7:05 p.m. That six-game series, continuing through Sunday, September 4, will wrap up the regular season home schedule for the Dragons in 2022.
