Dragons Announce Several Roster Changes

The Dayton Dragons, in conjunction with the Cincinnati Reds, announced the following roster changes today: Outfielder Brian Rey has been promoted to Dayton from the ACL Reds. The Dayton Dragons, in conjunction with the Cincinnati Reds, announced the following roster changes today:

Outfielder Brian Rey has been promoted to Dayton from the ACL Reds.

Infielder Steven Leyton, catcher Michael Trautwein, and left-handed pitcher Jayvien Sandridge have been promoted to Dayton from Daytona (Florida State League).

Catcher Daniel Vellojin has been promoted from Dayton to Double-A Chattanooga.

First baseman Ruben Ibarra has been placed on the injured list (thumb).

The Dragons roster is now at the Midwest League limit of 30 players. .

Brian Rey spent parts of the 2019 and 2021 seasons with the Dragons and won the Midwest League (then known as High-A Central League) Player of the Week award for each of the first two weeks of the 2021 season. In 13 games in 2021 with the Dragons, Rey batted .423 with six home runs and 19 RBI to earn a promotion to Chattanooga before finishing the season at Triple-A Louisville. In 2022, Rey served an 80-game suspension to begin the season before playing in nine games with the ACL Reds, where he batted .241 with four RBI. Rey holds the Dragons all-time club record for most RBI in a game with eight on July 27, 2019 at Fort Wayne.

Leyton, a native of Nicaragua, appeared in 50 games with Daytona in 2022, batting .249 with eight home runs. He started 25 games at shortstop and 19 at second base.

Trautwein spent time earlier this season with the Dragons, appearing in 15 games, primarily as a catcher. He played in 10 games at Daytona, batting .250 with two home runs.

Sandridge appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen with Dayton in 2022, posting an ERA of 1.50 with three saves. Opposing batters hit just .138 against him as he struck out 42 hitters in 24 innings.
