Dayton, Ohio—Dayton Dragons broadcaster Tom Nichols was part of the 2026 induction class into the Ohio Sports Hall of Fame. The dinner and ceremonies were held on Saturday, October 17 at the Dayton Convention Center.

Nichols, the voice of the Dragons on radio and television for the past 19 years, was inducted as a media contributor. He has called Minor League Baseball for 39 seasons and is on pace to announce his 5,000th minor league game in 2027. Nichols was inducted into the Greater Dayton Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024.

“Thanks to Robert Murphy and the entire Dragons family for giving me the opportunity in 2008 to join what I consider to be the greatest organization in sports,” said Nichols. “Also thanks to the fans who have followed the Dragons during my time in Dayton, whether they are listeners and viewers that I have known personally, or those out in radio land that I have never met, but who have still enjoyed listening to the stories of Dragons baseball straight from the Dragons biggest fan of all. I also extend my thanks to Howard Kellman, voice of the Indianapolis Indians for the more than 50 years, who gave me my start in this business in 1988, and to Marty Brennaman, the legendary voice of the Reds for most of my life, for his influence on my career in baseball and his support during my time with the Dragons.”

Nichols, who worked as a minor league baseball broadcaster for 20 years before joining the Dragons, identified his top-10 favorite Dragons memories during his time in Dayton:

From 2008-2025:

--Billy Hamilton’s 100th stolen base in 2011

--Seth Mejias-Brean’s ultimate grand slam walk-off home run in 2013

--Jose Siri’s 39-game hitting streak in 2017 that broke a 40-year-old Midwest League record

--Calling a Dragons game on television with Joe Morgan in 2018

--The Dragons record-breaking 15-game winning streak in 2025

And from the amazing 2026 season:

--Carter Graham’s incredible first half headlined by his game on May 28 when he hit two home runs including a grand slam and drove in eight runs to set a club record

--Kien Vu’s walk-off steal of home on June 11

--The Dragons doubleheader sweep of Peoria on the last day of the first half on June 18 to capture a division title

--John Michael Faile’s pursuit and eventual capture of the Dragons all-time career home run record

--The Dragons playoff wins on September 10 and 11 in front of an amazing energetic crowd at Day Air Ballpark to earn a spot in the Championship Series for the first time ever
