Dragons on Deck: Michael Siani

Position:  Center Fielder
Siani is currently ranked as the Cincinnati Reds #8 prospect by MLBPipeline.com. He was the Cincinnati Reds fourth round selection in the 2018 draft out of William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

2019 Season with the Dragons:  Siani made an aggressive jump to the Dragons in 2019 after opening his professional career with Greeneville in the Appalachian League in 2018. Dragons fans will remember Siani for his highlight reel of brilliant catches in center field, including one of the greatest defensive plays in franchise history on July 30 that earned a spot among the ESPN Top 10 Plays of the Day.  Siani led the league in stolen bases with 45, the third highest total in Dragons history. As a hitter, Siani battled through a slow start as he made adjustments to the level of competition and became one of the Midwest League's top lead-off men. Beginning May 24 and continuing through the end of the year, Siani ranked third in the league in both hits and runs scored while ranking eighth in batting average at .292. For the year, Siani played in 121 games for the Dragons, batting .252 with six home runs.
Outlook:  As a high school draft pick from a northern state, it was expected that Siani would require some adjustment time. He gets tremendous credit for his instincts on the field and his high baseball IQ as well as his overall makeup and work ethic. He is expected to continue his climb through the Reds system in 2020, likely with Daytona in the Florida State League. 
Fun Facts:  Siani received the Dragons 2019 Community Service award for his volunteer work throughout his summer in Dayton…Siani's younger brother, Sammy, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the supplemental first round in 2019. A third brother, Jake, is still in high school and is also a prospect. The three Siani brothers played in the same outfield at William Penn Charter School in 2018…Siani was a star for Team USA 18-and-Under teams in international competition in consecutive years in 2016 and '17, teaming with former Dragon Hunter Greene in '16…In 2019, Siani joined legendary former Dragons Billy Hamilton and Jose Siri as the only Dayton players to lead the MWL in stolen bases.
