Hartford, CT- Yard Goats catcher Drew Romo cranked three home runs, tying the franchise record, and led Hartford to a 9-5 extra inning victory in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday night at Dunkin’ Park. It was the second time that Romo has hit three home runs in a game this season (July 28 @ New Hampshire) and just the second time that a Yard Goats player has done it in Hartford. The Yard Goats scored four runs in the eighth inning to earn a split in the twin-bill. Joander Suarez pitched a seven-inning no-hitter for Binghamton in the first game of the doubleheader, as the Rumble Ponies beat Hartford 2-0.

In game two, the Yard Goats trailed 3-2 in the seventh and final inning. Drew Romo led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the game, to tie the contest at 3-3. Bladimir Restituyo followed with a single, and then Sterlin Thompson connected on a two-run homer, giving Hartford a 5-3 lead. Playing as the home team from the rainout in Binghamton, the Rumble Ponies tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly and solo homer by Drew Gilbert and it was 5-5.

The Yard Goats scored four runs in the eighth inning to take a 9-5 lead. Kyle Datres put Hartford ahead with a double, scoring Niko Decolati and later in the inning Drew Romo blasted a two-run home run, his third of the game. Romo hit a solo homer and a pair of two-run homers in the win.

In game one, Joander Suarez pitched a seven-inning no-hitter for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in a 2-0 win. The right hander faced the minimum 21 batters over seven no-hit innings. The Yard Goats only base-runner was a walk by Sterlin Thompson. Suarez extended his no-hit inning streak to 13 innings as he fired six in his Double-A debut, Thursday against Harrisburg. Yard Goats starter Carson Palmquist was solid and allowed just two runs in a seven-inning complete game with nine strikeouts.

Yard Goats left-hander Carson Palmquist retired 12 of the first 13 batters faced with seven strikeouts over the first four innings. However, the Rumble Ponies loaded the bases on a walk, hit batsman, and single. Hayden Singer followed with an RBI single, giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead. The Rumble Ponies scored a second run on Luisangel Acuna’s infield single to make it 2-0.

The Yard Goats continue a 13-game homestand on Friday night (7:10 PM) against the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. RHP Andrew Quezada will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Dom Hamel will start for the Rumble Ponies. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
