Drillers Snap Skid with Shutout Win

Springfield, MO – The Tulsa Drillers snapped a four-game losing streak on Friday night at Hammons Field as they earned a 3-0 win over the Springfield Cardinals.

The shutout win featured four different pitchers and was the eighth by the Tulsa pitching staff this season.

The win also put the Drillers back into a first-place tie with the Arkansas Travelers in the Texas League North Division with eight games left in the first half.

BOX SCORE

Nick Frasso made his tenth start on Friday and worked his sixth scoreless start of the year. The right-hander threw four innings, giving up three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The Drillers offense was also held scoreless for the first six innings by Springfield starter Logan Gragg. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy gave up seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the first six and two third innings pitched.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Tulsa broke through to score the game's first run. With a runner at first, Austin Gauthier doubled to the gap to score Brandon Lewis.

Alec Gamboa followed Frasso and kept the Cardinals off the board for the next two and two thirds innings, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out three Springfield hitters.

The Drillers took a 3-0 lead by scoring two insurance runs in the ninth inning. A walk and a hit batter put two runners on for Jose Ramos, who plated both on a double down the third base line.

John Rooney and Jordan Leasure combined to pitch the final two and one-third innings in the win, as Leasure earned his fifth save of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS AND HAPPENINGS:

*Gamoba received the win and is now 6-0 on the season.

*Gauthier has now scored a run in nine consecutive games and 13 total during that span.

*Leasure is five for five in save opportunities this season.

*Lewis has reached base in ten consecutive games.

*Ramos, Eddys Leonard and Lewis all had two hits in the game.

*First pitch was delayed an hour and ten minutes due to rain showers in the Springfield area.

*Before the game, the Drillers announced that pitcher Aldry Acosta was added from Great Lakes, and pitcher Emmet Sheehan's contract was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Sheehan made his Major League debut on Friday. He pitched six hitless innings with three strikeouts against the San Francisco Giants.

The Drillers and Cardinals will resume their six-game series on Saturday in Springfield. First pitch for game five at Hammons Field is slated for 7:05 p.m. and the starting pitchers are expected to be:
