Major League Baseball announced the rosters for this year's Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game and two Travelers were among those selected. Right-hand pitcher Justin Dunn and first baseman Evan White will be playing for the American League team. The Futures Game which features the top minor league prospects takes place on All-Star Sunday. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. central time on Sunday July 7 from Progressive Field in Cleveland and will be broadcast on MLB Network. Dunn and White are the first Travs selected for the game since right-hand pitcher Thyago Viera in 2017.
Justin Dunn is 5-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 14 starts for the Travs this season. Over 70.1 innings pitched he has struck out 90 with 21 walks while holding opponents to a .242 average and only four home runs surrendered. He was selected as a Texas League midseason All-Star this year and pitched a scoreless inning in the All-Star game. Dunn was acquired by the Mariners from the Mets in a seven player trade this past December. He was originally a 1st round pick by the Mets in 2016 out of Boston College.
Evan White has posted a .300/.362/.481 line this season through his first 53 games. He has hit seven doubles, two triples and nine homers while driving in 27 runs. A 2018 minor league Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, he was selected as the starting first baseman for the North Division squad and went 2-4 in the game with a double and a run batted in. He recently strung together a 23 game hitting streak, the longest in the Texas League this season. White was drafted by the Mariners in the first round in 2017 out of Kentucky.
The Travs were the first half North Division champions and will host the first two games of the Texas League North Division playoffs on September 4th and 5th. Tickets for playoff games will go on sale to the general public on July 2.
