VISALIA, CA - San Jose put up a single run in the first and added two more in the fourth. It was all they would get, but the two-run rally proved to be the difference in the game as the Rawhide fell, 3-1.

Riley Smith tied career high-marks by dishing seven innings and striking out eight, but he made a pair of mistakes: a flare double to Jalen Miller in the first and a two-base hit down the line by John Riley in the fourth. Miller's hit scored a solitary run and Riley's double scored a pair.
Smith (L, 4-4) was dominant around San Jose rallies in the first and fourth innings, setting down the side in order in the second, third and sixth. He also retired the final six hitters he faced in succession.
San Jose (38-41/4-5) deployed a tandem of Logan Webb and Domenic Mazza that kept the Rawhide offense quiet for the first eight innings. Webb and Mazza (W, 1-0) each delivered four strong innings and combined with Rodolfo Martinez (SV, 5) to hold the Rawhide hitless in 11 at bats with runners in scoring position.
Visalia's lone run came in the fifth when Mark Karaviotis hit into a fielder's choice with runners on the corners and one out. Jason Morozowski came home to score and Karaviotis legged out the back end of the play to avoid an inning-ending double play.
Marcus Wilson led the way for the Rawhide with three hits, including a double, and Jason Morozowski added a pair of singles. Karaviotis tallied the only RBI for Visalia (42-37/5-4). Camden Duzenack also drew three walks.
Visalia brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth after Duzenack led off with a walk and Dominic Miroglio followed with a single, but Martinez retired the next three hitters to send the Rawhide to 3-1 loss.
RHP Emilio Vargas (6-2, 1.54) gets the start for the Rawhide tomorrow against Giants RHP Jason Bahr (1-0, 0.00). First pitch will be at 7 PM and tickets are available on rawhidebaseball.com.
