Cannon Ballers Win Five of Six Over the Shorebirds
KANNAPOLIS, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (45-87, 22-44) ended the 2026 season with a 14-3 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (71-61, 38-28) on Sunday afternoon.
The Shorebirds found themselves behind early after the Cannon Ballers scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first, making it 4-0.
The deficit grew to 7-0 in the second inning following a three-run homer by Alexander Albertus (6).
Kannapolis continued to pour it on in the fourth, using three consecutive doubles by Stiven Flores, Alexander Albertus, and Clay Burdette to score four more runs and take an 11-0 lead.
The Shorebirds struck for their first two runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Stiven Martinez and a run-scoring groundout by Jhomnardo Reyes, making it an 11-2 game.
Delmarva manufactured another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Rodriguez, pulling the Shorebirds within 11-3.
Dalton Neuschwander was a bright spot on the mound for Delmarva, throwing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts in his final game of the year.
The Cannon Ballers put the game away in the bottom of the eighth with three more runs, securing a 14-3 victory over the Shorebirds in the 2026 season finale.
Nick Weyrich (3-1) was the winning reliever for Kannapolis, while Esteban Mejia (0-9) took the loss for Delmarva.
The Shorebirds finished the 2026 regular season with a 45-87 record and will open the 2027 season at home, hosting the Fredericksburg Nationals at Perdue Stadium on April 2.
