Eighth Inning Rally Gives Jupiter 3-2 Win Over St. Lucie on Tuesday Night

JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads (17-25; 54-54) came from behind to defeat the St. Lucie Mets (16-26; 49-59) by a final score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

In the top of the first inning, St. Lucie jumped out to an early lead when Elian Peña led off the game with a solo home run off Jupiter starting pitcher Victor Rodriguez. Later in the inning, the Mets loaded the bases, but Rodriguez escaped and the Hammerheads trailed 1-0 after the first half inning.

After the first inning, Rodriguez settled into his start and finished with four innings pitched and allowed one run, four hits, one home run, one walk, one hit-by-pitch, and struck out five batters

Tristan Stevens made his second rehab appearance with Jupiter out of the bullpen in the top of the fifth inning. Peña hit his second solo home run of the game to lead off the frame as the Mets took a 2-0 lead.

The Hammerheads responded in the bottom of the fifth inning on offense. Victor Ortega led off with a double and Luis Arana reached on an infield single to put runners at the corners with no outs. Josh Hogue smacked a sacrifice fly to left-center field to score Ortega and cut the deficit to 2-1 after five innings.

Stevens finished his rehab appearance with two innings and just the one run allowed with three strikeouts as he makes his way back to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Both offenses remained quiet until the bottom of the eighth inning. After Houge drew a leadoff walk off Mets reliever Connor Ware (L, 1-8; BS, 1), Yoffry Solano blasted his first Single-A home run over the left field wall, a two-run home run, to give Jupiter a 3-2 lead. For Solano, it was also his first extra-base hit as a right-handed hitter this season.

Walin Castillo (W, 2-7), who had entered the game in the top of the seventh inning, retired the final nine outs of the game, recorded three strikeouts and allowed two hits, to secure the 3-2 win on Tuesday night. For Castillo, it was his first appearance on the mound for Jupiter since July 11 in a loss to St. Lucie prior to the All-Star break which put him on the seven-day injured list.
