ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (60-54) fell in game three of the series against the El Paso Chihuahuas (63-50) by a final score of 2-1 on Thursday night at Dell Diamond.

Round Rock RHP Cole Winn (8-4, 5.62) earned the loss after his 3.2-inning performance saw two earned runs on three hits, seven walks and two strikeouts. El Paso RHP Matt Waldron (2-4, 8.01) earned the win with 5.0 innings and one earned run on four hits, one walk and eight strikeouts. Chihuahuas LHP Jose Castillo earned a six-out save to secure the win.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • El Paso scratched a run across in the first frame. RF Taylor Kohlwey singled with one out before back-to-back walks for LF Matt Beaty and C Cam Gallagher. 3B Brett Sullivan hit a sacrifice fly to score Kohlwey and the Chihuahuas led 1-0.
  • 3B Josh Jung plated a run for the Express in the third inning. 2B Diosbel Arias singled to start the inning. LF Kole Calhoun extended the frame with a two-out single and Jung went to right field for a base knock to tied the game at one.
  • The Chihuahuas untied the game in the fifth inning. DH Luis Liberato led the inning off with a walk. After a one-out double for 1B Kyle Martin, CF Jose Azocar walked to load the bases. RHP Fernery Ozuna took over to face RF Taylor Kohlwey and he manufactured a run on a sacrifice fly to give El Paso a 2-1 lead. The Express offense looked for a comeback in the ninth inning after a leadoff double for Jung, but could not scratch a run across and fell 2-1.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • 3B Josh Jung extended his hitting streak to eight games after a 2-for-4 night with a double and a RBI. Jung is hitting .424 (14-33) with five multi-hit games.
  • Texas Rangers rehabber RHP Dennis Santana went 1.2 innings and did not allow a run while he allowed two hits, one walk and he snagged two strikeouts.

Next up: The two teams meet for game four of the six-game set on Friday night at Dell Diamond. Express LHP Dallas Keuchel (0-0, 3.31) will make his Dell Diamond debut against Chihuahuas LHP Jay Groome (0-0, 2.53). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
