Erie surrenders Hartford comeback to open series

ERIE, Pa--- The Hartford Yard Goats roared with nine unanswered runs in a 10-8 comeback win over the SeaWolves at UPMC Park Friday.
Erie starter Matt Crouse loaded the bases in the first inning, and Dom Nuñez drove in a run on a sac fly to right to give the Yard Goats the lead 1-0.
Will Maddox smacked a two run home run into right center to give Erie the 2-1 lead on his first AA home run off of Yard Goats' Craig Schlitter. After a Logan Watkins walk, Dawel Lugo drilled a home run to left center field to extend the lead to 4-1 in the first. Wade Hinkle had an opposite field single to bring in Steven Moya to extend the lead to four runs. Erie led Hartford 5-1 heading into the second inning.
Dawel Lugo belted his second home run of the ball game into left field with two outs in the second inning. The solo shot was his fourth of the year, and it put Erie up 6-1. 
The SeaWolves continued to score in the third inning. Christin Stewart led the inning off with a single to center, then Gabriel Quintana tripled in a run to make it 7-1. Wade Hinkle sent a charge to center field on a sac fly to bring in Quintana, giving Erie the seven run lead into the fourth. 
Hartford's Drew Weeks cut the lead to five with a two-run bomb in the fifth inning off Crouse to make the score 8-3 SeaWolves. 
Hartford tied the ballgame in the eighth inning. The Yard Goats cut the lead down to four on Kurt Spomer in the eighth on an RBI single from Josh Fuentes. Spomer loaded up the bases, then Cardullo singled in a run on an infield hit to make it 8-5. The Yard Goats snuck another run on a bases loaded walk from Gerson Moreno. Brendan Rodgers smacked in two on a double to knot up the game at 8-8 heading into the home half of the eighth inning.
The Yard Goats went ahead in the ninth on a squeeze bunt single from Jan Vázquez that brought in Nunez to take the 9-8 lead. Josh Fuentes stormed into score on a passed ball to give Hartford the 10-8 advantage. 
Shane Broyles retired Erie in the bottom of the ninth to earn his 15th save to shut down the SeaWolves.
Hartford handed Moreno (0-2) the loss but propelled David Holman (1-0) to his first win on the season.
Erie and Hartford will square off again Saturday at 7:05 at UPMC Park. The Wolves send LHP Matt Hall to the mound to make his first AA start to face Hartford's LHP Jake Wynkoop (5-8, 4.62 ERA).
