Bowie, MD (August 22, 2026) – In conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, the Chesapeake Baysox announced that Orioles right-handed reliever Félix Bautista is scheduled to begin an MLB rehab assignment with Double-A Chesapeake on Sunday afternoon.
Bautista is set to make his first appearance in a game since he last pitched for the Orioles on July 20, 2025. He was initially placed on the injured list on July 21 of last year with right shoulder discomfort and was transferred to the 60-day injured list about a month later, following successful right shoulder surgery. Bautista has spent the entire 2026 campaign on the Orioles injured list.
Bautista has pitched three seasons in Baltimore, posting a 13-7 record with a 2.01 ERA in 156 career major league appearances. He’s struck out 248 in 161 and one-third innings while collecting 67 saves, serving primarily as the Orioles’ closer in that time.
Bautista was named an All-Star and the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year in 2023 with Baltimore. He went 8-2 with a 1.48 ERA in 56 appearances. He struck out 110 batters in 61 innings and allowed just 10 earned runs on 30 hits, all while converting 33 of 39 save opportunities. The right-hander led all AL relievers in strikeouts and was third in saves. Bautista was a three-time American League Reliever of the Month (April, June, July) in 2023.
Bautista first joined the Baysox as a minor leaguer in June of 2021. He allowed just one earned run in 12 Double-A appearances that season, stretching 13 and one-third innings (0.68 ERA). He converted four of five save opportunities. He was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk on August 10, 2021, to make his Triple-A debut. He later became the 197th former Baysox player to play in the big leagues, when he made his major league debut for the Orioles on April 10, 2022.
Bautista is scheduled to pitch for the Baysox on Sunday afternoon, as Chesapeake concludes its six-game home series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. First pitch on Sunday is set for 1:05 pm from Prince George’s Stadium. Single-game tickets, ticket plans, and group offers for the 2026 season are currently on sale.
