Jupiter, FL - Derian Gonzalez got the ball for Dann Bilardello's Palm Beach Cardinals (14-13) and had his best outing of the season, but ended up on the losing end of a 3-0 game against the Florida Fire Frogs (13-15).
Gonzalez tossed seven innings of four hit baseball, giving up two runs, walking two batters and striking out six. His only blemish came in the third inning. Gonzalez walked Omar Obregon to start the frame and Ray-Patrick Didder laid down a perfect bunt towards third that he beat out for a single. Austin Riley came up two batters later and hit a double to left that brought both runner across to give Florida the 2-0 lead.
Gonzalez cruised the rest of the way until he was pulled in the eighth inning to give way to Juan Perez. Perez got two really quick outs in the eighth until Riley came back up to bat. He took a 2-1 pitch to left that towered halfway up the light pole to give Florida the 3-0 lead.
The Cardinals had two reach in the bottom of the eighth as Jeremy Martinez singled to lead off the inning. Blake Drake hit a one out single to put two on with only one out in the inning. Leobaldo Pina grounded into a double play, ending the only threat that the Cardinals had all afternoon.
