First-Inning Scuffles Plague AquaSox Sunday

August 23, 2026 — PASCO, Wash.: The Everett AquaSox fell to the Tri-City Dust Devils 8-3 Sunday night at Gesa Stadium following a five-run bottom of the first inning that proved to be the difference-maker in the final game of the six-game Northwest League series.
Everett’s offense immediately got to work, bringing in two runs during the top of the first inning to give starting pitcher Walter Ford early run support. Carlos Jimenez and Luke Stevenson walked consecutively to open the game, allowing Aiden Taurek to bloop an RBI double to open the scoring. Driving in the other run was Brandon Eike, who lined an RBI single to score Stevenson.

The Dust Devils responded with fire in the bottom half of the frame, surging for five runs of their own to take a three-run lead. Kevyn Castillo hit an RBI single to plate the first Tri-City run, and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed two more runners to scurry home. Scoring the final two runs to give the Dust Devils a 5-2 upper hand was Capri Ortiz, who lined a two-run double into left field.
Ford departed after completing five innings of work, striking out two along the way before turning the ball over to right-hander Pedro Da Costa Lemos. A native of Santo Andre, Brazil, Lemos threw one scoreless inning and struck out one before Everett scored their third run of the game in the top of the seventh as Axel Sanchez touched home plate following a wild pitch.
Tri-City brought home one run in the seventh and two in the eighth, taking a late 8-3 lead. Kendrey Maduro hit an RBI single after Hayden Alvarez singled and stole second base for the sixth run, and Castillo smacked a solo home run to right center field to begin the scoring in the eighth. Driving home the final Dust Devils run was Alberto Rios, who hit an RBI single.
Trailing by five entering the final frame, the AquaSox went down scoreless in the top of the ninth inning to give the Dust Devils their fourth victory of the week and a series win.
