FIRST OVERALL PICK JACKSON HOLLIDAY JOINS SHOREBIRDS

6th Rounder Douglas Hodo also added to Shorebirds roster

SALISBURY, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds, in conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to announce the addition 2022 first overall pick Jackson Holliday as well as 6th Round selection Douglas Hodo to the Shorebirds roster. Holliday will be making his Shorebirds debut on Thursday, August 25 at Arthur W.

SALISBURY, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds, in conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to announce the addition 2022 first overall pick Jackson Holliday as well as 6th Round selection Douglas Hodo to the Shorebirds roster.

Holliday will be making his Shorebirds debut on Thursday, August 25 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Holliday, 18, was drafted first overall after hitting .685/.749/1.392 with 29 doubles, six triples, 17 home runs, 74 runs scored, 79 RBI, and 30 stolen bases in 40 games during his senior season at Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His 89 hits set a national high school record for hits in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 88 set by J.T. Realmuto in 2010. Holliday was named the Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year and Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year.

Holliday will be the second first overall pick to play for the Shorebirds, following Adley Rutschman who played in 12 games with the Shorebirds in 2019. Holliday is ranked as the 14th best prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline and ranked as the 39th best prospect per Baseball America.

Holliday is the son of 15-year MLB veteran and seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, who played for the Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics, and New York Yankees from 2004-18.

Hodo, 21, was drafted in the sixth round out of the University of Texas at Austin. Hodo hit .319/.418/.532 this year for the Longhorns, recording 26 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 73 runs scored, 47 RBI, 42 walks, and nine stolen bases.

The Shorebirds continue their home series against the Lynchburg Hillcats tonight, August 24, at Perdue Stadium and are home the rest of the week through August 28.
