Fisher Cats shut out Portland on Saturday night

MANCHESTER, N.H — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, shut out the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night, winning 3-0 from Delta Dental Stadium. It’s the fifth shutout thrown by the Fisher Cats this season.

Despite committing three more errors, New Hampshire (1-3, 36-36) out hit Portland (3-1, 43-30) 11 to two and scored two of their three runs in the third inning.

Orelvis Martinez lined an RBI double down the left-field line off Portland starting right-hander Hunter Dobbins (1-1), his team-leading 46th RBI of the year, before Damiano Palmegiani followed up with an RBI single up the middle, driving in Martinez.

Martinez and Palmegiani both collected three hits each, their third three-hit games of the season.

The Fisher Cats tacked on another run in the sixth inning on a Sebastian Espino sac fly to the right-field, his 17th RBI of the year.

Starting right-hander Sem Robberse (1-5) threw five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out three, receiving his first win at the Double-A level. The 21-year-old Netherlands native now has a 2.35 ERA at home in 42.1 innings pitched. The Blue Jays No. 7 prospect is tied for third in the Eastern League in innings pitched (73).

Right-hander Andrew Bash dealt 2.1 hitless and shutout frames with three strikeouts while right-hander Connor Cooke picked up his second Double-A save with a 1-2-3 ninth and two strikeouts.

The Fisher Cats continue their homestand against the Sea Dogs tomorrow at 7:05 pm. RHP Alek Manoah (0-0, -.-- ERA) will get the start for New Hampshire against RHP Brian Van Belle (6-3, 2.61 ERA) for Portland.
