Five Run First Carries Sounds to Second Straight Win

NASHVILLE (August 1, 2026) – Nashville jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on Saturday night as they beat the Charlotte Knights 6-3 in front of another sellout crowd at First Horizon Park. The Sounds used a five-run first and cruised the rest of the way, getting stellar pitching from the bullpen to give Sounds manager Rick Sweet career win 2,496, placing him in a tie with Bob Coleman for the second-most wins in Minor League Baseball history.

After escaping a bases-loaded jam unscathed in the first that saw him throw 31 pitches with just one hit allowed, Nashville's offense immediately provided Carlos Rodriguez with some run support. The Sounds batted through the order off Major League rehabber Tyler Gilbert to plate five runs on five hits. Luis Matos got the big inning started with a leadoff double and Tyler Black pushed the first runs across with a two-RBI double into the left field corner. Andrick Nava followed with a two-RBI single, and Freddy Zamora hit his first triple of the season to score Nava and give the Sounds a 5-0 lead. Rodriguez's night came to an end just two batters into the top of the second with a leadoff single followed by a two-run home run for Riley Unroe.

Newly added right-hander Jack Seppings made his Triple-A debut in relief and retired the first three he faced in order, including a strikeout to start his night. He made it six in a row with a three-up, three-down top of the third. The run ended with a leadoff walk to Tim Elko in the top of the fourth and his first hit allowed came via a two-out bunt single before he earned his third strikeout to end the threat. He finished his night with 3+ scoreless frames, working around three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Kaleb Bowman cleaned up the top of the fifth with a strikeout of Mario Camilletti to strand Eric Haase at first base.

Despite a two-out walk for Luke Adams in the bottom of the fifth, the Sounds remained hitless since the first. That changed with consecutive singles to start the home half of the sixth. Nava collected his second hit of the night and was followed aboard by a single for Jacob Hurtubise. Zamora bunted into an out that forced Nava out at third and an inning-ending double play kept the Sounds in front by just three runs. Bowman worked around the first two Knights batters reaching against him in the seventh with a double play of his own before striking out Haase to get through 2+ scoreless before turning the ball over to southpaw Mark Manfredi.

Each of the first three Sounds batters reached in the seventh to load the bases but were able to push just one run across after a double play and ground out minimized the prime scoring opportunity. Unroe swatted his second home run of the night in the top of the ninth off Manfredi to get the Knights a little closer. His second came from the right side after the switch hitter left the yard hitting lefty in the second inning. Manfredi responded by striking out two of the next three and inducing a game-ending ground out.

The Sounds and Knights will wrap up their season series on Sunday evening. RHP Brett Wichrowski (2-2, 8.47 ERA) is scheduled to make his second start of the series after working 1.1 IP in his second game back from the injured list on Tuesday night for the Sounds. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.

THE SWEET LIFE: With a 6-3 win Saturday night against the Knights, manager Rick Sweet ties Bob Coleman for the second-most wins (2,496) in Minor League baseball history. Sweet is one win away from taking sole possession of second place with the chance at a series finale victory over Charlotte Sunday night.

MAT-DOS: Luis Matos collected his 11th multi-hit game of the season for the Sounds, going 2-for-4 with a double in Saturday night's game. The 11 games are tied for the third-most with Ethan Murray on the current active roster. It marked Matos' 190th multi-hit game of regular season minor league career since 2019. He extended his hit streak and on-base streak to five consecutive games and marks the longest-active hit-streak on the team currently. The 24-year-old has posted a .285 batting average (572-for-2008), 210 XBH, 331 RBI and 339 runs since 2019.

YO QUERO: Jeferson Quero collected a multi-hit game in Saturday night's game, going 2-for-4 with a run. The multi-hit marked his second multi-hit game of this week's series against Charlotte, the first coming Thursday when he recorded a three-hit night. Quero recorded his 22nd multi-hit game of the season, currently leading the team. He also recorded the 99th multi-hit game of his regular season minor league career with the two-hit outing. He currently ranks ninth in hits (87) and 10th in AVG (.267) and total bases (137) among full-season minor league players in the Brewers' farm system.

ZAM-AURA: Freddy Zamora went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. The triple marked the first of his career in Triple-A and the third overall of his professional career. It was his first triple since July 7 of the 2023 season with Double-A Biloxi and is the 32nd triple for Nashville as a team this season. He has posted a .246 batting average (388-for-1576), collected 106 XBH, 197 RBI and 244 runs in his six-year regular season minor league career. Zamora ranks fourth in doubles (78), fifth in runs (244), sixth in hits (388) and 10th in RBI (197) among full-season minor league hitters in the Brewers' farm system since he began his professional campaign in 2021.

TYLER NO SLACK: Tyler Black had a productive night in Saturday's contest, going 1-for-4 with a double and adding two RBI as part of a five-spot the Sounds put together in the bottom of the first inning. The last time Black recorded two or more RBI in a game was back on June 28 against the Gwinnet Stripers when he posted four RBI, finishing the night 2-for-3 with a solo shot. The 26-year-old has collected 65 multi-RBI games in his regular season minor league career since 2021. Black has posted a .254 batting average (248-for-977), adding 75 XBH, 157 RBI and 171 runs in four seasons with the Sounds. He currently leads the team in stolen bases (19) and ranks 14th among Brewers' minor league players this season.

NAVA OUT OF IT: Andrick Nava tallied his fourth multi-hit game and second multi-RBI game for the Sounds, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Nava has posted a .325 batting average (13-for-40), adding five XBH, nine RBI and eight runs in his first season with Nashville. The multi-hit game marked his second against Charlotte this season with the first coming on July 10, when he went 3-for-5. It marked his 54th multi-hit game and 27th multi-RBI game of his regular season minor league career since 2019.
