Florida Snaps Skid with Thrilling Walk-Off

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Aug. 11, 2018) - The Florida Fire Frogs snapped a five-game losing streak with a thrilling, 3-2 walk-off victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday night at Osceola County Stadium. The victory was the third walk-off of the Atlanta Braves affiliate this season, and first win at home since July 14.

The stage was set in the final frame with the two teams knotted up at two apiece. After Kurt Hoekstra (0x3, BB) grounded out to first to start the inning against Colton Davis (1-3), Jordan Rodgers (1x3, R) took an 0-2 fastball off his back to put the winning run on base. Isranel Wilson (0x3, BB) went down on strikes, paving the way for the final dramatics.
Drew Waters (3x5, R) floated a single into right-center to push Rodgers up to third, setting up Riley Delgado's (3x5, 2 RBI) bloop single to right to plate the winning run.
Florida (16-29, 45-66) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning with the help of RBI knocks from Delgado and CJ Alexander (2x4, 2B, RBI). The home team took the advantage into the eighth, before Fort Myers (28-20, 56-60) tallied two runs against Victor Cavelieri to square the score.
The combination of Waters, Delgado and Alexander at the top of the lineup went 8-for-14 on Saturday night, with a run and three RBI.
Walter Borkovich left with a shot at his first win at the High-A level. The Michigan State product fired in six scoreless innings in just his second professional start, scattering four hits while striking out four. The right-hander has not allowed a run in his two starts with Florida (both against Fort Myers), limiting the opposition to seven hits, and punching out eight over 11 frames.
Chase Johnson-Mullins earned the win out of the Fire Frogs' bullpen. The left-handed reliever worked 1.2 innings of shutout ball, while giving up a hit and setting down two on strikes.
Florida goes for the series split in the finale of the four-game set from Osceola County Stadium on Sunday morning. It has yet to be determined who will start for the Fire Frogs, but they will face off against LHP Charlie Barnes (5-5, 2.69). First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., with coverage beginning at 10:45 a.m. with the Florida Fire Frogs Pre-game Show on the Florida Fire Frogs Broadcasting Network.
Sunday is the return of Brunch & Baseball at Osceola County Stadium. All ladies, 21 & older, who attend a Fire Frogs game on a Sunday will be treated to a free brunch at the ballpark! Food will be served from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Complementary Bloody Mary's, Mimosas and Beermosas will be served from 10 a.m. - noon. All gentlemen, 21 & older, will have a $10 upgrade with admission.
