Kansas City, Mo. - The Kansas City Royals announced today that Bubba Starling, a member of the 2012 Burlington Royals in his eighth season of professional baseball, earned his first promotion to the major league club.
Starling, 26, was selected by Kansas City second overall in the 2011 MLB Draft out of Gardner Edgerton High School (Kan.). He was a two-sport athlete in baseball and football for the Trailblazers, having bypassed the opportunity to play quarterback at the University of Nebraska when he signed with the Royals.
He excelled in his professional debut with Burlington as a 19-year-old in 2012, hitting for a .275 average while blasting 10 homers and accumulating 33 RBIs. Starling made his presence on the basepaths as well, successfully swiping 10 bases in 11 attempts that season.
After injuries in 2017 and 2018 that limited him to a combined 100 games in two seasons, he exploded this season in Triple-A Omaha. Across 72 games this season for the Storm Chasers, he's hit .310 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs while succeding in nine of 12 attempts on stolen bases and making just two errors in the field.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Single-game tickets are on sale now. Call 336-222-0223 or visit www.burlingtonroyals.com for more information.
