FUNNVILLE - Former Richmond Flying Squirrels manager Kyle Haines has been promoted by the San Francisco Giants to Director of Player Development, the club announced.

Under his new role, Haines will oversee the player development in the organization under Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi.
"I'm very excited and thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the Giants' ongoing strategy and development of players," Haines said. "I'm looking forward to working hard and building on the previous success of our minor league system alongside the Giants' player development staff."
Haines managed the Flying Squirrels in 2017 before earning a promotion to Assistant Director Player Development - Instruction after that season.
"Hainesy is all about baseball and making players better, period," Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell said. "I've seen him play golf, so I can say with 100 percent certainty. Seriously, we are happy for Hainesy and look forward to seeing him in his new role when he visits Richmond to work with the Squirrels players."
During his season leading the Flying Squirrels, Haines was named "Best Manager Prospect" in the Eastern League by Baseball America.
For the first time ever, the Flying Squirrels host the 2019 Eastern League All-Star Game presented by Genworth on July 10 at The Diamond. Tickets can be purchased at the Flying Squirrels Ticket Office, located on the first-base side of The Diamond, or online at squirrelsbaseball.com.
