MONTGOMERY, AL - Trailing 4-2 going into the ninth inning, the Biloxi Shuckers (23-12) used four extra-base hits to score four runs and come back to beat the Montgomery Biscuits (14-21) 6-4 at Riverwalk Stadium on Friday night. The Shuckers have now won three in a row and taken six of their first eight series.
Jake Gatewood started the top of the ninth with a double off LHP Travis Ott (L, 0-1). Tyler Heineman drove in Gatewood with a double off the left field wall, cutting the Biscuits lead to one run at 4-3. Darren Seferina replaced Heineman as a pinch runner and advanced to third on a groundout by Jake Hager. In the ensuing at bat, Blake Allemand lifted a ball to the left field gap that went over the head of Biscuits leftfielder Nick Solak, scoring Seferina easily on Allemand's first triple of the season. Ott exited the game and was replaced by RHP Reese Karalus. Batting with the go-ahead run at third, Clint Coulter worked a full count and drove the 3-2 pitch over the wall in straightaway centerfield, his second home run of the season, to give Biloxi a 6-4 lead. LHP Nick Ramirez (S, 1) worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out a pair to pick up his first save of the season.
Biloxi used the longball to start their comeback in the sixth. Batting with two outs, Gatewood cranked a solo home run to left off RHP Curtis Taylor, bringing the Shuckers with a two at 4-2. Gatewood finished the night 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored.
RHP Wuilder Rodriguez (W, 2-1) kept Biloxi close with 2.0 scoreless frames, allowing just a hit while walking one and striking out two in the seventh and eighth inning. Starter Kodi Medeiros didn't factor into the decision after allowing four runs on four hits in 6.0 innings of work.
Montgomery scored all of their runs in the first two frames. The Biscuits struck first on a solo home run by Nick Solak, his third of the season, in the bottom of the first. The nine-hole hitter Daniel De La Calle pushed Montgomery to a 4-0 lead with his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the second. Biloxi responded with a run in the top of the third when Lucas Erceg bounced into a double play with the bases loaded, bring home Wendell Rijo.
