(Niles, OH)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers had a nice bounce back win one day after losing just their second game of the season. The Scrappers sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take control on the way to a 6-2 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters on Monday night.
After Williamsport got on the board first in the top of the second, the Scrappers stormed back. Elvis Perez started the inning with a walk. Jason Rodriguez and Hosea Nelson would then reach on back to back singles to load the bases. An RBI fielder's choice for Tre Gantt would score Perez. Jose Fermin followed and delivered a two run single to give the Scrappers a lead they wouldn't give up. A bases loaded walk to Mitch Reeves would cap the scoring in the inning with the Scrappers leading 4-1.
Mahoning Valley would add insurance runs in the third and sixth innings. Jason Rodriguez connected on a solo homerun in the third while a Williamsport error would get the final run of the game on the board for Mahoning Valley in the sixth.
Zach Draper (1-0) started and earned the win with 5.0 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Draper walked 1 and struck out 2. Jordan Scheftz followed with a scoreless inning. Scheftz allowed 2 hits and struck out 1. Luis Santos would then go 2.0 innings in relief. Santos allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 while walking just 1. Luis Araujo finished the game with a perfect inning.
