Fox Twirls Gem in Somerset’s One-Hit Shutout Win Over Hartford

Rory Fox, Tony Rossi and Chris Veach combined to allow one hit against the Yard Goats, signaling the 12th one-hitter in franchise history, eighth nine-inning one-hitter and first one-hitter since a seven-inning one-hitter on August 21 at Hartford. The one hitter was the first nine-inning one-hitter since April 15, 2025 at Altoona.

The shutout win was Somerset’s seventh this season and first since Game 2 on August 21 at Hartford. It was Somerset’s first nine-inning shutout win since June 10 vs. Binghamton.

Somerset moved to 9-6 against the Yard Goats this season, including a 5-4 record at TD Bank Ballpark.

Somerset’s offense totaled 13 hits, racking up double-digit hits for the third time in the last four games. Somerset has won eight of its last nine games when recording 10-plus hits.

With Josh Moylan’s homer in the seventh inning, Somerset’s 187 home runs rank second in Double-A and are tied for 10th in MiLB at the time of the game’s conclusion. In September, Somerset advanced to 5-0 in games with a homer compared to 0-4 in games without a home run.

RHP Rory Fox (7.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K) tossed his second consecutive quality start in a career-high 7.2 IP. Fox’s outing was tied for the fourth-longest by a Patriot in the team’s Double-A history and longest since Bailey Dees worked 7.2 IP on May 30, 2024 vs. Bowie. Fox allowed a career-best one hit on a single to Braylen Wimmer in the second inning, joining Trystan Vrieling as the only two pitchers in Somerset’s Double-A history to toss seven-plus innings with one or fewer hit allowed.

Throwing 63 of his 89 pitches for strikes, Fox worked at least five innings for his seventh straight outing. Across his last three outings, Fox has posted a 1.89 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and .172 BAA with 17 K to 6 BB in 19.0 IP. Fox issued two or fewer walks in his 14th consecutive start dating back to his time with the Renegades. In that span, he’s issued 14 walks to 324 batters faced (.043 BB%).

RHP Tony Rossi (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) fanned two batters in his second consecutive scoreless appearance. Across his last 19 games dating back to July 7 vs. Reading, Rossi has a 1.82 ERA, 5-0 record, 0.81 WHIP and .153 BAA with 29 K to 7 BB in 24.2 IP.

RHP Chris Veach (0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) earned his fourth save across all levels this season and third with Somerset. Dating back to May 23, Veach has registered eight scoreless outings in his last nine games pitched with Somerset. During that span, he’s registered a 0.87 ERA, 1-0 record, 0.87 WHIP and .143 BAA with 3 SV in 10.1 IP.

SS Core Jackson (2-for-4, 2B) tallied his seventh multi-hit game with Somerset this season and 24th across all levels. With four multi-hit games in his last 10 contests, Jackson is 12-for-43 (.279 AVG) with four XBH.

3B Coby Morales (1-for-4) extended his hit streak to a career-high 10 games with a single in the fifth inning. During his 10-game hit streak, Morales is 12-for-37 (.324 AVG) with five RBI. Morales has reached base safely in 32 of his last 33 games. In that span, he’s slashing .310/.426/.440 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, 7 XBH and seven multi-hit games. Playing in his 128th game of the season, Morales surpassed Dylan Jasso’s 127 games (2025) for the most with the Patriots in a single season in Double-A franchise history. His 131 hits this season are also a single-season franchise record.

1B Josh Moylan (3-for-4, HR, RBI, 2 R) incinerated a solo homer to center field to lead off the fourth inning. With four homers in his last eight games, eight homers in his last 18 games and 12 homers in his last 35 games, Moylan’s 29 home runs across all levels lead the Yankees minor league system. Moylan’s career-high 29 homers in 119 games across all levels this season surpass his 17 home runs in his first 239 career games from 2023 to 2025.

Sporting a season-long eight-game on-base streak, Moylan is 10-for-25 (.400/.423/.920) with 4 HR, 13 RBI and 5 XBH in that span. Moylan’s three-hit night was his fourth three-hit game and 10th multi-hit game at Double-A.

DH DJ Gladney (3-for-4, 2 SB) recorded his ninth three-hit game and 30th multi-hit game this season, joining Coby Morales as the only two Patriots with 30-plus multi-hit games. With Gladney’s stolen base in the second inning, he picked up his 20th SB of the season, before swiping second base in the fourth inning for his 21st SB of the year. With 23 HR and 21 SB, Gladney joins Coby Morales as the second Patriot this season to record 20 homers and 20 stolen bases and third Patriot all-time to record a 20/20 season with Somerset (Oswaldo Cabrera - 2023 – 24 HR, 20 SB).

LF Jackson Castillo (2-for-4) singled twice for his 22nd multi-hit game of the season. Across his last seven games, Castillo is 7-for-21 (.333/.391/.476) with a HR and 2 RBI.

2B Connor McGinnis (1-for-3, 2B, RBI) sliced an RBI double down the left field line in the second inning.
